The holidays are here and it’s time to start decorating your home. The perfect decoration can make your home feel more festive and inviting. These three craft ideas are cheap and all supplies can be found at your local craft store. They also make for the perfect activity to do with grandkids and other family members to start new traditions!
1. DIY wreath
This homemade wreath idea is the perfect addition to your front porch during the holiday season. You can purchase a plain wreath at your local craft store for just under $10. While you are there, pick up some decorative pine cones, berries and a plaid ribbon. Once you are home, lay out all the supplies and heat up a hot glue gun. Start gluing on your wreath accessories in whatever pattern you’d like. To top it off, tie a large bow with your plaid ribbon and glue it on the bottom of the wreath!
2. Cinnamon stick ornament
This homemade ornament is easy to make and will be the perfect addition to your Christmas tree. This is also a great craft to make with your grandkids because you can make multiple for cheap. For this craft you will need a box of cinnamon sticks, coiled wrapped wire, clipped rosemary and decorative beads. To complete this craft, bend 3 1/2″ of the coiled wrapped wire in half to form a loop. You will then push each end of the wire into the hollow part of the cinnamon stick. To finish it off, use hot glue to attach the fresh rosemary as branches and the decorative beads for ornaments.
3. Homemade Christmas forest
To complete this homemade Christmas forest, you will need to make a trip to the craft store to pick up foam cones, card stock, green embroidery floss, Mod Podge Stiffy, plastic wrap and decorative gems. Start by wrapping the top of your foam cone with card stock to create a point and then cover the cone in plastic wrap. From there, knot the green embroidery floss around the top of the cone and make a criss-cross pattern down the remainder of the cone. Apply two coats of Mod Podge Stiffy to the floss and let dry. Once the Mod Podge Stiffy is hardened, remove the plastic wrap and decorate with gems.
