With temperatures rising (finally!) in many parts of the country, it’s natural to feel a bit of cabin fever.
The sense of awakening and rejuvenation coupled with new flower blooms and fresh air beckons us to get outside and stay there.
Remember what you were like as a child? Chances are you’d come home from school, change into play clothes and immediately head outside until it was time for dinner or the street lights came on – the unofficial signal that playtime was over.
Unfortunately, the responsibilities of work and adulthood eventually draw most of us back indoors, hunched over a computer, raising kids and/or doing chores around the house.
In honor of spring’s arrival, we’re sharing some of our favorite outdoor pastimes to enjoy this time of year. The TV will be waiting for you when you get back, after all.
A trip to the farmer’s market. Fruits and veggies taste especially delicious when they’re in season and purchased locally. Take those homegrown cherries and make a fresh pie while you’re at it.
Birdwatching. This popular retirement activity actually combines several events into one: a nature hike, a picnic and, if you go with a friend, a chance to socialize. Also, this hobby is an easy one to pick up if you’ve never tried it. Grab some binoculars, a notebook (to record your adventures), a birding book (to help you identify species and good places to find them) and the right outdoor gear, like sunscreen, bug spray and a hat.
Outdoor workouts. If you’re a regular exerciser, you’ll welcome the opportunity to head outside for a walk or bike ride in the fresh air. And if you’re not, now’s a great time to start!
