A new year means it’s time to say goodbye to old habits that are leaving you unhappy and unhealthy. Although the majority of Americans set New Year’s resolutions, only about 9 percent stick to their goals, according to the Statistic Brain Research Institute in an article by USA Today. These tips will help you set realistic goals and stick to them in 2019.
Realize overnight success does not exist.
Working toward a new goal requires a lot of effort, time and sometimes money. For example, if you want to become a professional skier, you are going to have to pay for lessons and equipment. You will have to wake up early on Saturday mornings to hit the slopes. To do something you have never done, you are going to have to put in effort in every day to be better than you were before.
Realistically focus on your health.
Finding a positive way to focus on your health does not include fixating on how much weight you need to lose or forcing yourself to adhere to a limiting diet. Focusing on your health in a healthy and productive way means accepting yourself for who you are and making changes for your future. When you fix your outlook, this positivity will impact other areas of your life, too.
Leave toxic relationships in 2018.
If something is weighing your spirit down, like a toxic relationship or job, do your best to leave this negativity in 2018. Instead of focusing on the negative, try brightening your outlook and look forward to the new opportunities coming in the new year.
Happy New Year! No matter your age, financial situation or upbringing, now is the time for you to shine.
