Few events are more special than hosting your family for the holidays. Listening to your grandkids’ howling laughter while turkey (or fresh-baked cookies!) fill your home with a delectable aroma certainly makes for memories that last a lifetime. But while you might be ready to welcome loved ones with open arms, that doesn’t mean your house is similarly prepared.
Here are three must-do tasks to make sure your space is all set to receive guests this holiday season:
Stock up on bathroom supplies. Have plenty of toilet paper, toothpaste, extra toothbrushes, soap, etc. on hand. It’s not uncommon for guests to forget certain toiletries and stores’ holiday hours could make it tricky to purchase these items after they arrive. It’s better to be safe than sorry; plus, it never hurts to stock up on necessities!
Add lighting. We love this tip from HouseLogic: Put motion-activated night lights in common areas so loved ones can safely navigate your home in the dark. Trying to find the bathroom in the middle of the night shouldn’t be a hazardous event.
Ask for help. Remind your own kids to bring necessary childproofing products to prevent the little ones from getting injured during their stay. And if you simply don’t have the time or energy to clean and otherwise prepare your space, don’t hesitate to hire a temporary housekeeper and/or personal assistant to help you get it all done. The holidays are a time for joy and reflection – not for worrying about vacuuming the living room!
